ZED451, the American version of an all-you-can-eat South American steakhouse, has closed its doors in Boca Raton.
Open since November 2008, an email from the restaurant’s public relations representative said the closing was because of the “economic collapse of 2008 and continuing market conditions.”
“Our ZED451 flagship location in downtown Chicago continues to thrive, which underscores the strength of the concept in urban areas,” said ZED Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Carl in the press release. “ZED451 is an unconventional steakhouse that has proven very popular for group dining as well as its bar experience. Its style of service, ambiance and food is highly contemporary, if not revolutionary.”
When I reviewed the places in March 2009—two out of four stars—I found the offerings pretty ordinary: dry chicken breast, tough bottom sirloin and salmon with too much black pepper. The so-called harvest tables of salads were ho hum as well.
I also found the 400-seat, 14,000-square-foot restaurant a bit of turnoff. It felt like Vegas in Boca.
