What does the phrase NT mean in Valorant? If you’ve just started playing, you should see the phrase quite often in the game chat. It’s a phrase that people who’ve played team-based games before should recognize, but if it’s someone’s first time, they might be unaware.

The phrase NT simply means “nice try." It’s mostly used in situations where a teammate loses the round but puts up a good fight or comes close to winning. Examples include when a player kills all the enemies but just barely fails to defuse the spike, or when a player is facing a 1v4 situation and manages to take two or three opponents down with him. It’s a non-toxic (usually, sometimes players use it in a sarcastic way with intent to mock), supportive phrase, that is meant to uplift or support a player that showed cleverness or skill in a losing effort.

NT’s probably been around for almost as long as team based games with a team chat have. Games such as World of Warcraft are examples, and the phrase has been a constant in an industry that has changed and evolved many times over. It’s very unlikely NT will ever disappear from game chats, no matter what form they take in the future.
