At any point of competitive play in Super Smash Bros. Melee you want to be at your best, able to perform everything you have spent hours practicing. And going into a match you want to be on equal grounds as your opponent right? What happens when your controller can't perform on a consistent basis while theirs can?

You are immediately at a disadvantage because of something that neither of you can control, and that adds a bit of chance to the game, which inherently takes away from the skill factor.

The fix does not add anything that was not possible in the original coding of Melee, but seeks to make the game-play consistently balanced for every player, and not just those who happen to get lucky with the "good" controllers, or those who have the money to buy controller after controller to find the most consistent one.

The UCF, universal controller fix, is the solution to create more consistency and equal playing grounds. To quote its creator:

"They merely become as consistent as what good controllers already allow players to do."

As a community who seeks to further the development of this game, in its technical skill and not just a random mechanic that everyone hates, like
tripping in Smash Bros. Brawl. The UCF should be implemented to create an even battlefield for all.
