In the 1988 NBA draft, Tim was undrafted, due to this he moved to Europe to play basketball. But after a few seasons later he came back to the United States and joined the Omaha Racers, and took part in the Continental Basketball Association. He played as a shooting guard in the NBA from 1989 to 2000.

He worked in Washington, from 1995 to 1999 where he played for two seasons with the Washington Bullets and later joined the Washington Wizards for the remaining two seasons. His remarkable time was when he was ranked first in the league in both true shooting percentage and three-point field goal percentage in the 1995 and 1996 seasons.

In that same ratio, he was ranked second place in turnover ratio. Moreover,  Furthermore, during All-Star Weekend he won the 1996 Three-Point Shootout.
