Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are eager to create their own personal piñata after learning about the history and what it means to different groups of people. Not only are they making a connection with history but they will get to understand the labor that goes behind it and what it means to people that create piñata's for a living. After they fully learn about the history and various perspectives on the piñata they will have a socratic seminar using their notes and gained knowledge to discuss amongst each other what it means to be a piñata maker and if they are being compensated and recognized correctly. This project benefits our students as I am serving a high hispanic population that commonly use piñata's as a form of celebration; through their gained knowledge they will be able to recall the history of the piñata when they see it at family events.
