Jerry began his career at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota, where he worked as a weather anchor, reporter, photographer, and weekend anchor. He also extended his talents as a producer and editor. He later joined WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi where he became the main weather anchor.

He then joined WFTV in Orlando and took over as the 5 pm weather anchor. Jerry was able to experience firsthand the power of tropical storms while covering Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Jerry then went to KDNL in St. Louis as chief meteorologist. In 1996, he won an Emmy Award for Weathercasting in the Mid-America region. Steve is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
