The $3 million renovation of the Palm-Aire Country Club’s Oaks Course is scheduled to be completed in December, with the course to play host to the Nike Tour’s South Florida Classic in mid-January.
The South Florida Classic was played last year on Palm-Aire’s Palms Course, which was renovated two years ago by another woman, Lorrie Viola, who collaborated with Karl Litten. The Oaks Course is being renovated by Fazio Golf Course Designers, with Senior Associate Jan Beljan in charge of the project.
“We’re working on becoming a more woman-friendly golf course,” said Gary Collins, president of Palm-Aire Resort Management Corp.
The Oaks Course is a 1971 Fazio design that is being lengthened from 6,700 yards to 7,000 yards while being switched from a par 72 to a par 71. The 14th hole will change from a par 5 to a par 4.
