Nintendo really wants you to know that its latest Zelda is drawing on the first Zelda. Not content with releasing a whole blog post about the similarities between The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and plain-old The Legend of Zelda, it has now released new artwork for the game that harks back to the 1986 original.

Released to celebrate New Year's Day, Nintendo of America tweeted the new art, showing the new game's blue-shirted Link looking across a cartoon horizon:

As pointed out by Twitter user Wario64, it's a direct reference to some very similar art for The Legend of Zelda:

It's not clear how deep the references go - some have speculated that the two games will share a direct narrative connection - but it's clear that Nintendo sees Breath of the Wild as a fitting way to celebrate the series' 30 years of existence.

One other little anniversary detail is the game's compatibility with the Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo, which, among other things, can make the sky rain meat.
