Ric Green is a hometown guy who likes the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce so much that he has begun a second job with the organization.
For Green, it’s 1989 all over again. Only now, he’s moved beyond his former job as the Chamber’s tourism and marketing director to run the show as chief executive officer and president. He started July 7 and said he took the position at a time when the city is on the brink of a positive future.
“The faces have changed but the feel in the community hasn’t,” Green said. “I sense that undercurrent of pride and enthusiasm, but I think it’s laying a bit below the surface and I’m going to try and bring it forward.”
Prior to his two-year stint as editor of The Observer newspaper, Green was a sports reporter, editor and photographer there for nearly five years, while also covering high school athletics for The Miami Herald. He also gained sports marketing experience with Broward County’s Economic Development Council, now called the Broward Alliance, and is known for his promotion of the Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo, among other events.
Despite the demands of his new job, Green said he will continue to announce races several times each year at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
He is married to Crystal Green, a director of Worldview Travel in Boca Raton. The couple own two rescued cats and live near the Chamber’s office at 2200 E. Atlantic Blvd.

Green said that the challenges of social problems must be addressed and that development has to begin in the city. He said the Chamber will reach out to businesses in all parts of Pompano Beach about these and other issues.
“There needs to be a balance of investment on both sides of town, and to see that businesses take root there,” Green said. “You want to see developers and businesses that are excited about investing here as partners, not just for what will benefit them.”
Green hopes aspiring Chamber members attend its next breakfast on Aug. 14 at the North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach. Information is available at
