Gyromania
7036 W. Palmetto Park Road, west of Boca Raton, 561-288-8737,
The Greek owner of the 3-year-old fast-casual Greek eatery in Coral Springs has expanded to the Garden Shops plaza. It replaces a similar concept there: Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill.
“My grandmother made the best galaktoboureko [custard pie] in the neighborhood,” says Peter Alexopoulos, who hails from Tripoli. “She gave me the recipe because I was her favorite grandson. When I was a boy, I would help my father barbecue. His souvlakis and lamb chops with tzatziki were very tasty, but now friends tell me mine are better.”
Best-sellers include spanakopita ($4.95), pita wrap with gyro or chicken souvlaki ($6.49), beef souvlaki platter ($12.95), lamb chops platter ($16.95), and of course, his galaktoboureko ($2.50, $4.50).
Lunch and dinner are served daily amid a recessed ceiling, light walls with poster-shaped photos of colorful salad ingredients and Greek background music. Three spits of gyro spin behind a counter of white-gray-black marble stones, and a TV shows scenes in Greece. The patio and sidewalk also provide seating.
