The Greater Boynton Chapter of the Pap Corps recently had its annual walkathon at Canyon Town Center in Boynton Beach to raise funds for cancer research.

The sixth annual fundraiser attracted more than 100 supporters participating in a warm-up with a trainer before heading along Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lyons Road. The registrants received a walkathon T-shirt and took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. A Wall of hearts honored individuals affected by cancer.

“We had a good turnout and it was a wonderful walk,” said event chairwoman Phyllis Zuckerman. “Our committee has been great to work with. It was very successful.”

The Greater Boynton Chapter of the Pap Corps Walkathon raised more than $18,000 with funds donated to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

“I see the results and we are getting more donations every year,” Zuckerman said. “I am a cancer survivor and it’s very empowering. Our fight continues.”

The chapter several events throughout the year to raise funds for cancer research, including a Duck Derby, Holiday Boutique and Bake Sale, Winter Card Party and Summer Fashion Show.

The Pap Corps was founded in 1952 and has more than 50 chapters.
