He retired from baseball during the final season of the 2006 season and began working on Giants radio broadcasts alongside play-by-play announcer Dave Flemming as a color commentator. He also has served for the Giants as a roving minor-league instructor as well as as an advisor to the Giants’ general manager, Brian Sabean.

He also worked for the Pac-12 Network since 2013 as a college baseball broadcaster. He earned a standing ovation when he was featured on the Jumbotron, it was during the time he came back for a visit to AT&T Park at the end of the 2006 season. On September 24, 2008, The Giants signed a one-day contract to allow him to retire as a Giant.

He is a former first baseman from 1992 to 2006 in Major League Baseball, He is mostly known as a  member of the San Francisco Giants. He won six consecutive Gold Glove Awards as a first baseman between 1995 and 2000, excelling as a defensive player. He also worked for the Giants as a special assistant to the General Manager.
