Tier lists in almost any game are often met with controversy, but when it comes to Super Smash Bros. Melee, most people agree about who is at the top.
The world's current No. 1 player Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma recently posted his personal tier list on Twitter. It has been a while since an official tier list has been released for the game, so it will be interesting to see Hungrybox's opinion.
The usual suspects are ranked at the top, but there are some interesting inclusions. To the surprise of (likely) nobody, Fox takes the top spot, and is the only S-ranked character on the list. The next tier, the A tier, is a bit more interesting.
Taking the second spot on the list is Marth. This is perhaps the highest placement for Marth since Ken "Ken" Hoang was the No. 1 player in the world. Falco had claimed the second spot for several years, but with the lack of Falco players making it to the top eight in major tournaments, Hungrybox dropped the character to the third spot.
One character who has moved up the tier list is Captain Falcon. The character most consider to be a joke in the Smash Bros. series was placed fifth on Hbox's tier list. That is most likely due to Falcon mains such as Wizzrobe and S2J making top eight at major tournament more frequently.
The mid tier characters stayed relatively similar, but the F tier on his list is also fascinating. Pichu is no longer listed the worst character in the game; Kirby has taken the position.
Other big names in the Smash Bros. community have created their own tier lists, including Gonzalo "ZeRo" Barrios, whose tier list is similar to Hungrybox's.
Overall it is interesting to see a change in the tier list for a game that has been played professionally since 2006.
