The brunch is real, but the femmes are faux.

Probably.

The Taco Bell Drag Brunch Tour is coming to Fort Lauderdale beach on Sunday, June 26. This is the last stop on the five-city circuit commemorating Pride Month for LGBTQ+ communities and will spotlight local female impersonators Jellika Boom, D’Vice Dion and Jah’Syra.

The event — at the Taco Bell Cantina, so that cocktails can be served — will actually have two performances, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., both shows hosted by Kay Sedia (pronounced “quesadilla”). Admission is free.

Kay Sedia (pronounced “quesadilla”) will emcee The Taco Bell Drag Brunch when the tour makes a stop at the Taco Bell Cantina on Fort Lauderdale beach. Spotlighting local drag queens and kings, there will be two shows, at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

“I was lucky enough to join the party soon after Taco Bell first imagined this experience,” Sedia told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “I jumped at the chance to bring together two of my favorite things: Drag and Taco Bell! The rest is herstory.”

Sedia, who was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and now lives in Los Angeles, is the emcee for all the tour stops, including Las Vegas, Chicago, Nashville and New York City.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to show my drag to a whole new audience, especially for those whose first drag show experience is through the Taco Bell event,” Sedia added. “For me, it’s not only about introducing drag to a new audience but really showcasing drag as an artform, and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.”

How it all got started

According to Matt Prince, senior manager of public relations and brand experience at Taco Bell, the cities chosen for the tour have large drag communities.

“The Cantinas selected are the most vibrant markets for the drag community and Taco Bell fan base,” he said.

The spark for creating the tour came from within Taco Bell: “The concept for Taco Bell Drag Brunch was born from several members within Taco Bell’s LGBTQIA+ employee resource group, Live Más Pride, as an opportunity to elevate and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.”

What you can expect

While guests wait in line, they will be offered free iced Cinnabon Delights coffee and Breakfast Quesadillas, according to Prince. And during the show, attendees will receive a Bell Breakfast Box, which includes the Grande Toasted Breakfast Burrito, Cinnabon Delights and Hash Browns with Breakfast Salsa, and a fountain drink.

“Each market also offers a range of alcoholic beverages, on top of what’s already offered in our Cantinas, such as a complimentary Brunch Punch and Baja Mimosa in Fort Lauderdale,” Prince said.

Sedia said each show has two group performances and three solo performances.

“From the moment fans walk in, they are fully immersed in the Taco Bell Drag Brunch experience, with vibrant colors throughout the Cantina, sequined wall decorations and even boas, all fit for a drag queen,” Sedia added. “[There’s also] free swag such as a golden compact mirror, shades and a folding fan that allows for audience participation and, then, of course, all the iconic drag performances.”

Taco Bell is partnering with the It Gets Better Project for the event.
