PAHOKEE — The Glades Central girls basketball team won its 100th consecutive regular-season game Thursday night by routing Pahokee 83-15.

The last regular-season loss by the Raiders (24-0), top-ranked in the state in Class 2A, came at the buzzer against Westminster Academy on December 2, 1988. Since then Glades Central is 105-5, including tournament games. The longest winning streak by a girls basketball team was by a team from Baskin, La., that won 218 games from 1947-53.

Shundra Smith led all scorers with 21 points. Temple Dowdell added 20 with 10 assists, while Anjeanette Gilbert pulled down 15 rebounds and scored 10 points.

“I feel fine; I’m so pleased for the kids,” said Raiders coach Graham Frost. “Those who have played four years have been part of something that many others cannot be a part of.”

The Raiders next challenge will be preparing for the district tournament.

“The girls are focused on districts,” Frost said. “If we can’t win districts, we haven’t done anything.”

The Blue Devils (4-18) started the game with only five players.
