Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of the children at my school receive free lunch and snacks daily. There are 25 students in my fifth-grade class at our inner-city school who face daily obstacles and difficult challenges. They come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds and very low-income families. Many of them do not have basic school supplies and other necessary items.

Despite all of the challenges these students face in their daily lives, each one of them comes to school ready to learn and succeed.

My Project

My classroom is full of eager learners. A typical day in our class is a mixture of lots of learning and tons of fun. I've been blessed with students who love school, especially math! My goal is to grow my students' love for math by helping them to get a deeper understanding of the subject.

I want to answer the dreaded question, "When are we ever going to use math?" I have requested a classroom subscription to the Scholastic magazine, DynaMath, because it provides real world situations and incorporates math to solve problems.

DynaMath magazine incorporates science and social studies into the lessons. Often, science and social studies are not currently a focus in elementary education in this country. My students love both science and social studies so I want to satisfy their hunger for "cool facts" while sharpening their math skills.
