In the late spring of 1996, Missick joined the Jazz Actors, a Harlem performance center organization, where he studied under Ernie McClintock. Missick’s style was heavily influenced by McClintock’s.
After the firm disbanded, Missick joined NITE Star, an educational organization whose primary goal was to educate young teenagers about AIDS awareness and the need for alternative lifestyles.
He met American on-screen star Kerry Washington while working with NITE Star and earned a steady payment from the plugs. In 2002, he made his professional acting debut as Tony in Quite a Long Notice.
His performance in that role led to parts in TV shows such as NYPD Blue, Law & Order, Now and Again, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as minor roles in films such as Undermind, 50 Ways to Leave a Lover, A Message from Pops, Freedomland, and Two Guns.
After meeting Denzel Washington, he landed a role in The Manchurian Candidate. Missick quickly became a fake Elvis in Lucky Number Slevin and shortly after handled his first driving job in Premium Close Zoe Saldana. He had a recurring role in the second season of the Netflix and Marvel Cinematic Universe series Luke Cage in 2018.
Missick portrays Dontrell “Cockroach” Hamilton, an ex-con who was just apprehended by Misty Knight, who is played by his real wife and series regular Simone Missick. In July 2018, he was cast as Sam in the CBS All Access series Tell Me a Story. Dorian Missick was born with a scar on the lower left side of his lip. It is unclear what caused the scar.
