As many of us know, the League of Legends community can be a toxic one. It is unfortunate to see some professionals stoop down to those levels and not be the role model that they could be. Mid-November of this year, Liu "MLXG" Shi-yu made a few insulting comments on his stream and is now paying the price.Liu "MLXG" Shi-yu reportedly called his teammate "peasant/farmer" which reflects low social status in Chinese culture. The LPL determined that he did not "subjectively insult others," but rather, felt like a professional player and public figure should provide a better example for the public.
Because making negative and insulting remarks breaks rule 10.2.5 Discrimination and Slander, Liu "MLXG" Shi-yu will have to pay a fine of 10,000 RMB which is about $1,500 USD. No announcements from RNG has been made regarding any team-related penalties.
With esports progressing further and further into athletics, the toxicity from professionals and other esport representation shows the world that we are not sportsmanlike. Instead, we need to show the world that esports is a welcoming community with tons of opportunity, great entertainment, and integrity.
