With his curls cut, eyebrows plucked and workout clothes traded for a suit and tie, Cicero teacher Roberto Hernandez showed off his 89-pound weight loss in Monday’s episode of “The Biggest Loser.”
Fashion guru Tim Gunn and celebrity stylist Ken Paves guided the seven contestants through “makeover week” so their families could see the progress they made in 10 weeks of the weight-loss competition.
“This validates every pushup I did, every mile I ran and for the first time in my life, I feel like I can be the person I want to be,” said Hernandez, who lives in Burbank.
Hernandez’s wife Rosie, stepson Angel and two young sons met him after his makeover.
“My dad looks awesome,” his son Jacob said.
After the reunion, the contestants participated in a challenge to run with weights with help from their family members. Hernandez, 36, nearly won the challenge and the one-pound advantage but former “The Voice” contestant Erin Willett was faster.
In the weigh-in, Hernandez posted a nine-pound weight loss from the previous week, despite losing his chief motivator, his twin brother Luis, who was sent home from the competition in last week’s episode.
On the first day of the competition, Hernandez weighed 348 pounds. He totaled 250 pounds in Monday’s episode.
“It’s time for me to push myself to that extra level,” Hernandez said.
North Carolina nutritionist Lauren Clark was sent home after not losing enough weight.
“The Biggest Loser” airs 8 p.m. Mondays on NBC.
