All four West Boca Bulldogs teams will be competing for the Western Communities Football League championship this weekend.
The Prep, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will play at Pahokee beginning at 10:30 a.m., while the Semi-Pro Bulldogs (7-1-1) will challenge South Bay (7-2) at 6 p.m. at Olympic Heights High School.
The Bulldogs Prep team finished the season 4-5 and will take on the Pahokee Blue Devils (7-2) at 10:30 a.m.. The Bulldogs Junior Varsity team (5-4) will play the Pahokee Saints (9-0) at 12:30 p.m. The Varsity Bulldogs (7-2) will play the Pakokee Flacons (9-0) at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of each division was originally scheduled to advance to the Fed Ex/Orange Bowl football tournament that crown the overall champions in South Florida. According to West Boca JV coach Carl Campanelli, only the varsity winner will advance after WCFL officials backed out of the tournament last week.
Despite the disappointing news, Campanelli is pleased his team will be competing for the league championship.
“We’re happy to be playing Pahokee in the title game,” said Campanelli. “We’re going to go over over there and do what we’ve been doing all season.”
