Whether he was supplying tackle for a fisherman half a world away or helping out a youngster trying to catch a snook in a backyard canal, Scott Boyd always delivered.
The owner of Bill Boyd’s Tackle Shop in Fort Lauderdale, a business started by his father in 1943, Boyd had a knack for being able to get rods, reels and parts to anglers all over the world, from Australia and the Bahamas to Madeira and Venezuela. Yet he was always involved with local fishing, repairing tackle, rigging bait and helping out with tournaments.
Boyd died of leukemia Sunday afternoon. He was 70. He is survived by a sister, Jeannine Richards of Fort Lauderdale, his daughter Stephanie Boyd of Fort Lauderdale and two grandchildren.
A viewing is 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 101 Southeast Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale, followed by a service at 2. Smith said a celebration of Boyd’s life will be held after the service at The Downtowner Saloon in Fort Lauderdale.
