PLANTATION — At 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, American Heritage quarterback Torrance Gibson tweeted: “Today is the DAY! Time to shock the world once again! #TheProcessEnds”.

By 8:30 a.m., Gibson officially ended his recruiting process by signing with Ohio State, perhaps shocking people who thought the Buckeyes commit would flip to another school.

“The recruiting process has been crazy,” Gibson said. “It’s had its ups and downs but I enjoyed it, I took advantage of it. I finished off how I wanted to finish off. I’m just proud to say I’m a Buckeye.”

Gibson, the Sun-Sentinel’s No. 1 recruit in Broward, committed to the Buckeyes in November, but recently took official visits to Auburn, LSU and Miami. Gibson said he finally decided on Ohio State “a few days ago.”

Gibson will join a log jammed Buckeyes quarterback depth chart that features Cardale Jones, J.T. Barrett and Braxton Miller. All three players have started at least three games for the reigning national champion Buckeyes.

“They’re giving me an opportunity to play quarterback,” Gibson said. “I know I’m not going to go there and start right away. I have to earn my spot and that’s exactly what I want, an opportunity to compete for the position. I’m going to go in there, from day one, I’m going to compete.”

Gibson said he took the other schools into consideration, but couldn’t pass up a “once on a lifetime opportunity” to join the defending national champions. In choosing Ohio State, though, Gibson snubbed the hometown Hurricanes.

“A lot of people coming at me saying you should stay home, put your city back on the map,” Gibson said. “Like my family says, there’s nothing left in Miami. So I’m going to try a different atmosphere and go from there.”

Heritage cornerback Tarvarus McFadden, committed to Florida State since October, stuck with the Seminoles on Wednesday morning. McFadden, the Sun-Sentinel’s No. 4 recruit in Broward, said he never wavered on his commitment.

Tyler Gordon (FAU), Christian Irving (Wyoming), Janarvis Pough (Bowling Green), Anthony Flory (Appalachian State), Brett Kahn (Brown), Nick Peart (Dartmouth), Noah Bringas (Florida Tech), Deonta Fair (Monmouth), Dilan Thomas (Eastern Kentucky) and Travis Jackson (Ave Maria) also signed.

“This last two or three weeks have been mayhem, but at the same time, it’s been something great to get these kids to the next level and that’s what I really enjoy,” Patriots coach Mike Rumph said. “We hustle hard and have had about eight to 10 colleges in every single day.”
