The senior forward had one goal in mind going into the season: to help Calvert Hall win its first Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship since 2003.
Mission accomplished, and along the way, Alexander poured in key goals as he emerged as the area’s top scoring threat in his third varsity season. A captain, he finished the season with 25 goals — including the tying goal in the Cardinals’ 3-2 win over Archbishop Curley in the championship game — and added six assists.
Coming off an 11-goal, five-assist breakthrough junior season, Alexander further elevated his game. He scored six game-winning goals as No. 1 Calvert Hall finished with a 15-4-2 mark.
“Ben is an old-school, blue-collar forward. He is 6-foot and used his size to his advantage,” Cardinals coach Rich Zinkand said. “… He can play facing the goal and beat defenders with speed, play with his back to the goal, or finish with his head. His goal in the final tied the game and gave us momentum to get the win.”
The MIAA A championship capped a banner year for Alexander, whose under-17 club team, Pipeline SC, captured the U.S. Youth Soccer national championship this past in the summer. He has committed to play soccer at Kentucky.
